AKADEMIKS SAYS "I MADE CHIEF KEEF!" DURING RECENT TWITCH RANT
It seems like DJ Akademiks has become one of the leading voices of the culture. After getting his start talking about rappers on the video game streaming platform Twitch, Ak has since gone on to cohost popular shows like Everyday Struggle on MTV and even inked a new podcast deal, “Off the Record”, exclusively on Spotify. On the pilot episode, Ak sat down The Game and Blueface’s managerWack 100 and controversial rapper Tekashi 69. It seems that when it was time to record episode two of the podcast, Akademiks reached out to Chicago rap legend Chief Keef. Keef didn’t respond and left Ak’s message on read which sent the media personality on a crazy rant during his August 10th Twitch stream.
During the stream, Akademiks said he direct messaged Chief Keef to get on the episode and the rapper left him on read and began to talk about the lack of support he receives from artist. He also makes it a point to say that the reason he continues to support rappers like 6ix9ine is simply because 6ix9ine supports him. Things take a strange turn when someone comments in the stream, “Chief Keef made you (Akademiks)”. Ak responds, “N*gga I helped make Keef n*gga! N*gga I gave them niggas rep that them niggas never had. I called that nigga the “Chiraq Grim Reaper” n*igga. Thats why when he’s getting shot at and sh*t happen to him y’all are looking at it in disbelief. You know why? Cause I created that f**king vision that he was untouchable, so don’t do it like it’s one sided. That’s what I’m tryna tell y’all. Ive done a lot to create narratives and help rappers themselves.”
Although Akademiks says he still believes Chief Keef will respond to his interview request, there are several reasons the rapper may not. Keef might not be a fan of Ak after he negatively critiqued his latest song or because of his recent sit down with Tekashi 6ix9ine. The rant rubbed some artists the wrong way including fellow Chicago rapper G Herbo who reposted a clip of the rant and said “When you say sh*t like this I just can never respect you!” We’ll see who ends up being the guest on episode two of the “Off the Record" soon enough.
