COI LERAY IS TEACHING ASPIRING ARTISTS A VERY IMPORTANT LESSON IN MUSIC BUSINESS
New Jersey rapper Coi Leray has been applying pressure for about a year now. Recently, she’s turned things up a notch, dropping hit records like No More Parties, I Like ft Karlae and today, Bout Me. Leray calls out her haters on the single “Bout Me”, inspired by critics of the young star including her father Benzino. It seems that Coi has figured out how to make the industry work for her, utilizing platforms like Tik Tok to her advantage.
Coi Leray’s “No More Parties” challenge created waves in the industry and inspired freestyles from rap superstars like Polo G, Lil Yatchy, K Camp and more. The smash record remix features Lil Durk and earned Leray her first Billboard entry. Today, for new music Friday, she released ‘Bout Me”, using her signature tactics in order to push the record : social media. Leray previewed the record for weeks on social media building a buzz around the Playboy Carti-inspired hit. We’ve seen this tactic used before with her single “Big Purr” featuring Pooh Shiesty. The song had social media in a frenzy with just a 30 second snippet from Tik Tok which inspired challenges for a song that wasn’t even released yet!
Coi Leray is a great example for artists in that great promotion starts with you. While many artists wish for huge roll out budgets and paying Tik Tokers thousands of dollars for promotion, sometimes less is more. Apps like Tik Tok, Triller and Instagram’s Reels makes it easier than ever for creatives to create their own content, boost music awareness and promote new sounds.
