HERE'S FIVE ALBUMS FANS ARE DYING FOR RIGHT NOW
The entertainment industry has become a fast paced playground for talented artists both young and old. Hip Hop rookies and veterans alike battle each week to put out great music and make it to the charts. Rooted in the new digital age, the music world is constantly flooded with new content. Wonder kids like 24k Goldn, Lil Nas X and Coi Leray are prime examples of the what appears to be “overnight success”, flooding social media consistently, earning each of them a spot on Billboard charts. With the constant force feeding of “microwave music”, will we finally get a sophmore Cardi B album, or Kanye's Donda album or Travis Scott's Utopia album? With so many upcoming rap and hip-hop releases, here’s 5 albums we know fans are patiently waiting on:
Certified Lover Boy : Drake
Drake “Certified Lover Boy” is arguably the most highly anticipated album in Hip Hop right now. Drake first announced that the album was dropping January 2021 but later recanted. The Canadian superstar released a statement saying “Good things take time,” only to keep fans waiting even longer. Rap fanatics speculated that CLB would drop on Valentine’s Day but unfortunately, they were way off. While Drake adds finishing touches to what we hope is another classic album, he gifted fans with “Scary Hours 2.” This three song EP, released on March 5th, 2021, featured only two features from rap stars Lil Baby and Rick Ross. Of course, Hip Hop enthusiasts geeked over the album as all three songs charted on Billboard's Top 100. It’s been a long wait for the follow-up to 2018’s Scorpion, but as Drizzy told us on the EP, “we’ll see what’s about to happen next.”
Off Season : J Cole
J. Cole’s undeniable talent and refreshing humility a huge part of his artistry and why his fans will ALWAYS wait for him to drop new heat. He’s mastered the art of “sneaky drops”, a music tactic that artists like Beyonce and Nicki Minaj use to flex their star power. “Sneaky drops” are subtle releases that set the entertainment industry on fire in the click of a button. Fans wait for the clock to strike 12am for a chance to be one of the first people to tune in to new content from their favs. And J. Cole is always one of them. Just today, the release of his single ‘Interlude’ went viral on social media. The record is off his album “Off Season” dropping May 14th 2021. I have no doubt that it’ll reach #1 upon its release as J. Cole never disappoints when he drops new music.
Untitled : Kendrick Lamar
Fans of the Compton rapper continue to eagerly await the follow-up to 2017’s ‘DAMN.’, which celebrated its fourth anniversary earlier this year. Back in October, Lamar spoke in an interview about the reason behind the substantial gaps between his solo album releases. He stated, “I spend the whole year just thinking about how I’m gonna execute a new sound, I can’t do the same thing over and over,” he said. “I need something to get me excited. I see you get frustrated sometimes because you want some new shit.” TDE recently teased with a crypto message on social media saying “The Wait Is Over” and fans immediately assumed that a new KDot album was on the way. Unfortunately, they were wrong as the annoucement was for TDE artist Isaiah Rashad’s video and single “Lay Wit Me” featuring Quality Control rapper Duke Deuce. Seems like fans will have to hold out a little longer for another Kendrick Lamar album.
R9 : Rihanna
Although Rihanna isn’t a rapper, I think we all can agree that WE WANT HER ALBUM. Rihanna’s brand has expanded far beyond music as her SavagexFenty company has reached major success. She has evolved into a savy business woman and fashion mogul. While we're happy for her, music fans are still patiently waiting for Rih to step into the booth and release some fresh new music. .In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last July, Rihanna gave an update of sorts, confirming that the anticipated album won't disappoint. "I am always working on music and when I am ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it's gonna come out. And you're not going to be disappointed when it happens. It's going to be worth it." While some fans were pleased with the news, members of ‘Rihanna Navy’ were not. The Navy has waited four long years since 2016's ANTI. All the while, Rihanna has taken great pleasure in teasing the project, dubbed R9. Rihanna is playing with her fans emotions but we love her and we’ll wait.
Lil Baby x Lil Durk Collaborative Album
The Voice and the Hero have announced that their teaming up to give fans a collaborative project. The leaders of the new school have been featured on a series of hit records together including "Finesse Out the Gang Way", "3 Headed Goat" featuring Polo G and Dj Khaled's "Every Chance I Get." Lil Baby previewed a snippet of a song featured on the joint album and fans responded well. We're waiting for a release date.
