TORY LANEZ RESPONDS TO FLOW STEALING ALLEGATIONS IN HIS NEW FREESTYLE
Tory Lanez, despite being “cancelled”, has managed to keep his creative spirits high by putting out some super successful records. His most recent album Daystar became the rapper's fifth album to debut in the top 10 of the US Billboard 200, his single featuring Da Baby ‘Skat” was #1 trending on Youtube and most recently the Canadian rapper just made a million dollars by selling his unreleased album on NFT for just $1 each. Although the future looks bright for Tory, the rapper has recently been under fire after being accused of stealing flows from other artists. During his most recent release off his NFT album, he made sure to send a message to his critics.
Tory Lanez’s sound has always been the topic of conversation around his music. Back in 2016, Power 105.1 Breakfast Club cohost Charlamagne told Tory that “his music is good but it doesn’t sound like he’s developed his own song yet. The most recent controversy began when Tory Lanez went to Hot 97 to freestyle on the Funk Flex show. Fans pointed out that his freestyle sounded a lot like a freestyle done on Hot 97 over Jay-Z 'PSA' beat by Philly rap legend Cassidy. Both Tory and Cassidy saw the reposted comparisons on social media and decided to comment. Tory explained that he loves Cassidy’s music is simply paying homage. Cassidy then did an interview saying “Either break bread or pay homage for real.” Tory Lanez also stepped into the comment section of that interview with “aight bet.” Not too long ago after the first flow stealing allegation, Tory Lanez released a Forever Rolling produced track featuring Kodak Black. The beginning of the song sounds almost identical to the flow used by Kentucky breakout star EST Gee. Forever Rolling is also an affiliate of EST Gee and ultimately the curator of his unique sound. Fans debated whether or not it was just a coincidence or was Tory really flow biting.
On August 10th, Tory released a candid “When Its Dark” freestyle laced with cocky bars, clever wordplay and of course some shots at Cassidy “I leave Cass body in that casket his career is in.” He also addressed the flow stealing allegations directly during his verse saying, “I’ll steal a nigga flow and what? P*ssy, AND WHAT!” It's clear that Tory is done playing Mr. Nice Guy but we'll see if Cassidy responds.
